The message at the top reads "Christmas Post Card for Drummers / 'Tho far away, my thoughts to-day / Are of you, my dear, and home: / Stern duty parts two loving hearts / And sends me forth to roam. / The season's joys for you and the boys / Your wandering hubby - alone!"
