A man sits, looking at a piece of paper, in a small, unidentified office in the B & I Building. There is a table in front of him—in the foreground—and a roll-top desk behind him. A Journal titled, “Merchants Trade Journal,” and a telephone directory lie on the table. Catalogs for Farley and Loetscher and Carr, Ryder & Adams are visible in the roll-top desk. On top of the desk is a History of Dubuque County and volumes one and two of History of the Lumber Industry of America. A file box sitting on top of the roll-top desk is labeled "Transfer" and below that is written "G. _ Rose, Treas." Possibly G. DeForest Rose, secretary & treasurer, Spahn & Rose Lumber Co., 701-703 B&I Building. The number “85” has been written on the emulsion side of the negative and is visible in the upper right corner of the picture. The number “1” has been written in the upper left corner.
