Description

The building in the foreground is the Custom House and Post Office. Constructed in 1858 of cut limestone, this three story building held the offices of the Surveyor of Customs, Post Office, Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. District Court. Arches are visible over the main windows and several chimneys are visible on the roof. The B & I Building, also known as the Bank and Insurance Building, may be seen behind the Custom House and Post Office. The number 1379 is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
