Description

Celebrating the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, two dozen young women holding long streamers which have been attached to the top of a tall pole are seen marching in a parade. Small American flags have been attached to the top of the May Pole. The bottom of the pole is resting in a small cart which is pushed by two young men. The women are dressed in identical white dresses, white stockings, dark shoes, dark vests, and white caps with dark ribbons. A horse drawn wagon with several occupants is visible behind the May Pole dancers. Parked along the street behind the dancers is an open car with one passenger. Two signs on buildings along the street read “Garage” and “Key City Shoe Repair." The Key City Livery is across the street, at 18th and Couler, now Central Avenue, in Dubuque, Iowa. The number 1349 is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
