Description

A woman and man are seated on the side of a partially submerged steam engine that has tipped over into waters of the Mississippi that have covered tracks near the Dubuque water front. Another woman is standing on the tracks. The engine overturned on April 14, 1916 due to high water that eroded the track bed. Five crewmen escaped injury by jumping off the locomotive. The number “2” on the front of the engine is visible near the water line. The number 1342-b is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
